How the checking line decided the Swedish Cup

So many of the absolute top stars in floorball lining up against eachother in the Swedish Cup final, in a arena reaching the boiling point. All eager to win a title and gain bragging rights before an evantual clash in the SSL final down the road.

Who would have thought, that the game would be decided by Falun's third line, not to take anything away from them as players – all brilliant floorball players in their own right. But I do not think that too many would have thought that Jonathan Berglund and Linus Holmgren would be the heroes after the gunsmoke had settled, alongside the great play of Bending-Sörling in net – of course!

How did it happen? Let us have a look.

The numbers and how it looked

How did they do from a scoring chance perspective?

The Backby line (Berg - Berglund - Cederström - Backby - Holmgren) had the most time on the court against the Langer line of Storvreta (Nystedt - Nemecek - Kohonen - Langer - Weidman). Despite Storvreta having Ulriksson and Eriksson in their other top line, it is hard to argue that the Langer line is not their top line.

And they came away from this game with some really good results. Below are the numbers for the Backby line, when being complete on the court. There were some shifts where Falun shifted individually, where only some of them were on the court playing. Those do not count here.

Coming away with a 2-0 result in five-on-five play in a game that ends 2-1 for your team, is of course really strong numbers. And they did it against top competition.

Storvreta putting on the pressure

How did they look in the end of the game?

Trailing by a goal, Storvreta of course ramped up the pressure when playing without the ball, the longer the game went.

This turned into a risk/reward-game with Jonathan Berglund as the main character.
