The Short Game That Turned Out To Be Shorter

Last week, we looked at how Nokian managed to beat Falun on the road, through cashing in on high-danger scoring chances, but atcually not deserving the win, when looking at the deserve-to-win-o-meter.

Last weekend, it was time for the second leg of the Champions Cup quarterfinals between the two teams. Falun needing a win on the road, to send the series to overtime (most earned points after two games advances to the next round).

As you might have heard or noticed, Champions Cup games are played 3x15 minutes. However, you could argue that this game turned out to be even shorter than this. Treat that as a small teaser for the video analysis below.

🔢 | A look at the numbers

Once again, Nokian came away with the highest number of high danger scoring chances, mostly through counter-attacking. But Falun dominated when looking at scoring chances coming off of mid-high danger shots.

The total xG numbers for the game came in at 5,3 for Falun and 3,1 for Nokian. A game that ended 2-2, which was enough to send Nokian to the semifinals.

So once again Falun did outchance Nokian on aggregate, but failed to create more high danger looks than Nokian.
