🛠️ The time out - and the performance vs the result

While scanning through the recent men's SSL games, an early time out caught my attention. Växjö for some reason is struggling to get wins against teams they should beat. And after 8:45 in the first period, Jyri Korsman took his time out while being down 0-3 away against second to last Strängnäs.

Well, one of the reasons why they are not racking up wins is of course availability for their best players. Axel Hjälm has not played for the club yet, Dudovic has been injured a lot and Sankell and Ramirez where missing in this parcicular game. Those are tough blows for any team.

But let us get to the actual time out and their away game against Strängnäs up to that part. I think early time outs are fascinating. And big picture wise, I kind of feel they can come for two reasons.

1) You think your team is underperforming and you need to do something about it

2) You actually do not think your team is doing that bad, but you feel the players feel they are doing really bad

Let us have a look at how bad Växjö was actually doing.

Korsman pulled the plug on his time out after 8:45. At that stage, these are the five-on-five numbers in that game.

So it is a story of two tales. Looking at all shot attempts (Corsi) and the actual goals, Växjö is not doing great. Though if you look at the big scoring chances (chances off of high or mid-high danger shots), things look to be quite alright for them. Strängnäs has been scoring, despite a low level of danger on their shots, and Växjö has got nothing from some pretty good chances.

So an educated guess would tell us, that some Växjö players probably feel they are doing awful as a team, and some can put it a little bit better in perspective, realizing that they are indeed creating chances and being snake bit in terms of how crazy good Strängnäs was converting on low danger stuff, since they have three goals on one big scoring chance...
